Anyone got a physical copy of White Night in front of them, that can double check something with me? I'll be on googletalk for the next hour and a half-ish, username velithya. I show as offline but I'm on, I promise. Now showing as online.

Would be much obliged!

EDIT: Okay, no-one's pinged me yet, and I have to go to bed in about a half hour, so let me detail my query here. SPOILERS FOR WHITE NIGHT, OBVS. )

I have some wonderful terry cloth towels and they were huge for 250, and I wouldn't want to waste such good bathing towls on baby butt wipes if they wouldn't work, so any of you all have experience with using recyclable items like wash cloths for a toddlers poopy butt?

The scan results weren't so colourful afterall, though it did take 3.5 hrs to complete a full scan. ._.

In the end, just one trojan and a big bunch of cookies. Though the trojan proved to be a pain. -_- No matter how many times I removed it, it just kept coming back to the registry. In the end I gave up and did a system restore. It seems to have worked, though for some reason, I had no restore points before October.... I'm also hoping that there aren't other things on my laptop that Spyware Doctor hasn't picked up. But nothing noticably bad has occurred, to my knowledge, so it should be ok.... I think.

I wouldn't really be surprised if there were other things on this laptop that I didn't know about. My other thumb drive seemed to have been infected with a plethora of things, but went unoticed until Supanova, when one of the committee's laptop antivirus starting blocking things left, right and centre when it got plugged in. How malicious those things are are another matter, but I've since put it aside until I can be bothered to take a proper look at it.

All this anti virus stuff is such a pain to work through. :\

I know I'm a little late on the bandwagon, but I just wanted to show you this picture of my daughter as Boo from Monster's Inc. My mother and I collaborated on the costume. :)

Hi crafters!

Lurker here.
I have a question about picture frames. Has anyone made their own custom picture frame from scratch? I've searched the internet for instructions but most require router saw [?] and I'd rather not go in that direction.

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them. I have several posters and picture that need framing and purchasing a lot of frames is going to get expensive.

Thanks!

So just in the last 2 days I have made a number of pieces.... Click here for Pictures! )

I do however have a question, the clasps that have the spiral bit at the end, what are they used for? It's like a normal lobster clasp but instead of a loop to crimp cord to its a spiral like a split ring but maybe 5 or 6 rounds.

Thanks for looking, I do have more things I have made but alas my camera is over on my bed and my pieces are not yet unpacked.

♦ sarah's note → Ex-bassist and vocalist for the band Supercar, Furukawa Miki struck out on her own solo career after the group disbanded. With her sweet and strong voice, sometimes reminiscent of Chara, she blends awesome acoustic/alternative rock sounds with rock/pop melodies and occasional electronic blends. She's got some pretty awesome music so there's a lot to try but you might want to nab either of her singles "Coffee & SingingGirl!!!" or "Candy Girl" the former being one of my favorites. Not to mention she has some pretty awesome album covers.

A short summary of my last week: ASKLJNFSKJDGNSKJDNG. everything sucks, so I'm going to talk about the Dresden Files.

SO. I have now read through book eight (Proven Guilty) and am waiting for my copy of nine (White Night) to come in from the library, as my electronic copy is incomplete, the bookstore I bought the others from didn't have that one in (it's on order for me), and all the other stores had different covers. IT IS A GRIEVOUS SIN NOT TO MATCH COVERS, PEOPLE. JUST SAY NO. Anyway! I have been really rocking the books, and let me tell you - Harry Dresden and John Marcone really have a thing! If you have not read this post yet, GO AND READ IT (SPOILERS IN COMMENTS, JUST READ THE POST). I WILL WAIT.

If you've heard good things, and you've been wondering whether you should give the books a try, I really recommend them. The characters are likeable, Harry is pretty adorable even when he's being a complete idiot, and the plots are well thought out and tie together really well. You might think there are dangling ends, but no, just wait a couple books and they'll be woven back in as well. RECOMMENDATION COROLLARY: this is a trigger warning that contains implied spoilers for book three. ) IF YOU ARE EASILY TRIGGERED, DON'T READ IT. (Sami, this unfortunately means you.)

OKAY. With that out of the way, I'm gonna move right on to fic recs! THESE ARE ALL HARRY DRESDEN/JOHN MARCONE. IF THIS IS NOT YOUR CUP OF TEA, MOVE ALONG.

Still with me? )

ARE YOU STILL WITH ME? THAT IS IT! Isn't it criminal that there isn't more fic in this fandom for these two? GOOD, PLEASE WRITE ME SOME MORE <.<

Screw you outdated SOPHOS scanner at UWA! I thought my thumb drive didn't come away with the worm that's been circulating around at uni, but it has! The bad thing is that my laptop didn't pick up anything, but the home computer did, and we have the same anti virus system. ._. I didn't pay enough attention and realised that somehow, the 'Intelliguard' was turned off and it might have been that way for a long time.... I look forward to the colourful scan results I'll be getting about 20 mins from now...

So, I apologise if you receive anything weird from me. Please ignore it.

I totally don't need to deal with this right now. D:

Why can't I get the worm off my thumbdrive? D: The anti virus doesn't pick it up until it tries to launch itself, then it only quarantines the execution, and the folder that it's in only shows up in the anti virus browser!!

Heck with it. As long as it doesn't execute it should be. I'll deal with it after exams.

I looked in the memories, but couldn't seem to find anything about making photo blankets. I have found a few places online with some information, but I was wondering if anyone had actual experience doing this. I want to put some pictures onto a blanket front and possibly sew a fleece backing onto it to make it more cozy. The issue is the photos. My printer at home isn't great, does that matter? What all do I need to do this? Any information is great! Thanks!

Hi all:

So I haven't seriously picked up sewing in years, but now is the time, I say! I have a pattern I want to work on, but the first step is stumping me (I know... not a good sign, right?) But I won't let it deter me: I know you guys can help me through!

The pattern tells me to: "Overlock all edges. Do not trim off any of the straight edges. On the handles' curved edges, trim off the 5/8" seam allowance"

First of all, I don't have a serger/overlock machine. My machine does have an "overedge" stitch, however. My research on the internet tells me that I can use this, I think...

So for my purposes, it seems that overlocking here just keeps the edges from fraying up... so it seems that you would do the stitch over the edge of the fabric- like... so the needle actually comes down OFF of the fabric on one edge of the stitch, right? If so, then how would I trimming the edges off of it? Should I actually be doing the stitch 5/8 of an inch IN from the edge? If so, then should the 5/8" line be at the inside of the stitch or outside?

Sorry if this sounds confusing or elementary. Any help with deciphering this would be grand. I've done machine sewing before, but never really used any stitch other then the straight running stitch. This is a whole new world to me. :-)

Thanks so very much in advance!!

As it starts to get colder I feel the need to start Christmas gifts. My dad always wants an "stylin' lid" every year with a fold up brim, and I've finally got the perfect pattern down so I thought I'd share.

My winter hobby, creating all-your-favorite-wornout-jeans-together blankets, has begun. The deal works like this: friends give me all their worn & torn jeans, and when I have enough (plus any jeans I wear out) I make them a quilt out of 'em. Each quilt is customized to it's donor in some way- one has hand embroidered flour-de-leis, one was done in only dark colors, the one pictured has a lot of courdory in it ('cause that's what he gave me). Each also gets custom batting, such as the flour-de-leis one's wool-batted with old army blankets and water-resistant- he takes it camping. It also weighs 26 lbs and took two winters to hand-stitch the hem because it wouldn't fit under my machine. I won't be doin' THAT again, sheesh! I usually badly overestimate how much fabric I'll need, so the blankets end up queen or king sized rather than full sized. I have to admit, I love seeing my friends (and their children in one case) totally cocooned and passed out cold in one of my quilts.
Backing in whatever king sized sheet I've picked up at the local thrift, binding is fleece for the kids and flannel for adults. And truthfully, they're tacked every few inches with embroidery thread, not quilted...

♦ sarah's note → detroit7 is one of the those fun to listen to kind of bands. You add hyperness and harder edged rock together with Engrish and you, no doubt, get a good time. The three member group has been bounced from labels for a while but most recently was signed with Victor, this will hopefully lead to more stable releases as most of their discography is a mesh of indies and major releases with many songs ending up on multiple releases. They have also released their debut American album only this year. I encourage nabbing their first two albums to try.

Note: Added the links to their American album so if you like remember to support.
